Shadow Work Techniques

Authentic Transformation Through the Dark Night

Jermaine JonesMay 29, 20258 min read

Carl Jung named the shadow as everything we disown — the traits we suppress, deny, and then project onto the people around us. What we refuse to face does not disappear. It runs the show from underneath.

Through, not around

Real transformation does not bypass the dark with affirmations and good lighting. It descends. It meets the disowned parts, listens to what they were protecting, and brings them home.

The gold is in the dark. The parts of you that you exiled are carrying the very power you have been missing.

Begin with the projection: the person who irritates you most is often holding a mirror. Ask what they are showing you about yourself — and stay with the discomfort long enough to learn.
